What brand oil do those who change their own oil use? Mobil 1 0w 20 is available locally, but the Toyota dealership is an other 10+ miles up the road. Is it worth the extra trip to the dealer or is Mobil 1 a good substitute?
Mobil 1 0w20 is an excellent substitute. I was running Mobil 1 until my local Walmart decided to clear out some 0w20 5 quart containers of royal purple for $20
Toyota 0W20. I'm toying with purchasing bulk oil from the dealership, just 4~5 liters at a time, bringing in my own container (some sort of gas can). My main objective is to stop putting 1 liter containers in the recycle stream, but would also be cheaper. I checked with the service manager; he was very agreeable/positive. The cost: $3.85 per liter. Compares to $5.91 I currently pay for bottled liters. Meh, the cost of container and a graduated pitcher may be prohibitive, might just stick to bottled liters. Still, food for thought.
Amsoil XL in the correct weight. I've been very, very happy with Amsoil products since day one. What I like is that it uses engine heat to CLEAN the engine. I've opened motorcycle engines running it, and bare metal is all you see...no gum or varnish.
