I noticed more folks at the pharmacy and was wondering if the flu had arrived: This was a surprise. Bob Wilson
A year with a good enough vaccine, or less arrival of 'cases' from elsewhere because we are now afraid of EVERYTHING.. Hard to know at this point.
Well, vitamin D winter is about at its peak. Time for all those immune compromised people to catch the flu. See Newsletter: Epidemic influenza and vitamin D | Vitamin D Council for a newsletter article about what science has to say about it. Short message: take 5000 to 10,000 IU of vitamin day per day to avoid the seasonality of the flu. Warning message: there are a few recent studies warning that too much vitamin D is harmful. All of them use bolus doses in a monthly, even annually, pattern. You shouldn't take a year's worth of vitamin D all at once anymore than you should take a year's worth of coffee all at once. Most recent research indicates that daily is the best, particularly for pregnant women. Long message: study the data at GrassrootsHealth | Vitamin D Action - GrassrootsHealth | Vitamin D Action, Vitamin D | Vitamin D Council | Providing information on Vitamin D, and VitaminDWiki | Vitamin D Wiki .
After being out in public, riding buses, standing in line, whatnot, I am rather dedicated to washing my hands when back home. Dedicated, tending towards neurotic? Living in a city with millions of chronically medically underserved people can do that to ya. Gets worse though. When I take a commercial flight I bring a wipee with me and do the seat buckle and tray. Seriously, people look at the weird foreigner. But I reckon they are not keeping up with environmental microbiology literature.
Gosh, during the winters I just don't eat enough fish for my mercury intake, I suppose getting a flu shot would top off the mercury crave, good idea
The single dose package doesn't have a perservative if you actually worried about thimersol. They also help keep your face warm.
Vancouver, B.C., also -- where they have also embraced wearing nitrile gloves. Mendel L. here on PriusChat is from there. He is probably all outfitted! Just received my vaccine two weeks ago. I always wait until the end of December, since the half-dozen times I have had influenza, I have always gotten it at the end of January, February or early March.
Yeah it's going around here in Utah everywhere..the only remedy is hot fluids like Chicken Noodle Soup and a high dose PriusChat with a dose of Craigs List....Good nite!
I think Bob Wilson would endorse El Patron agave juice as a preventative. Myself, I am going with Black Velvet and Pabst Blue Ribbon and a few hours of the Chiefs and the Patriots.
At face value the request@6 concerns whether fish or flu shots will provide more mercury. Ten (ish) years ago, a quarter of canned tuna exceeded 0.5 parts per million: Alarming find on mercury levels in canned tuna - SFGate Let’s assume that is still the case. If you choose ‘well’, 115 grams in the small can provides 58 micrograms of mercury. Few vaccines contain thimerosal, but ‘seasonal flu’ is one that does: Thimerosal in Vaccines Buy that, and by my calculations you get 1 microgram of mercury. I can assure you that 58 flu shots in succession will cause some discomfort, besides, your health-care provider is unlikely to pay for the subsequent 57. Canned tuna is more cost effective for the thesis as stated. Now if Lucifer were a pregnant human female, adequate intake of omega 3 fatty acids might be an issue. Tuna is high in these, but mercury tags along. Those fatty acids are also abundant in flax seeds, walnuts, spinach, wheat germ and cauliflower (among many others). So she’d have options
'Uncomplicated' influenza deaths are not very high in US recently (as such things go). But if you are an old codger and get pneumonia as a consequence, you may join the 50,000 or so that CDC is tasked to reduce, by way of vaccination. If they could concoct a safer but still effective vaccine, they'd do so. So I'm naive, right? They want to create autism because...well, why, exactly? Qui bono? Falls kill about 30,000 in US; outside of CDC area because that is basically a ladder X idiot X gravity thing. LOTS of other mortality causes are detailed in their 'Deaths: Final Data for 2013' pdf table 10. Data nerds have much to feed on there.
Being something of a "past Hippie," counterculture one-time commune dweller -- and even a vegetarian of sorts for a few years --- Plant-based sources of Omega 3 are not the same and do not provide the benefits that animal sources such as fish provide. You can purchase Fish Oil that has been distilled to remove the toxins such as mercury and PCBs.
Stevewoods is sure that plant and animals sources of O3FA do not provide the same benefits, and actually I have no basis to agree or disagree. The highest animal source I know is chicken fat. I'd never argue against someone wanting to take 'purified' (sorry, I don't know what that means in detail) O3FA pills. Nor against eating chicken fat. O3FA came up for me in current discussion with a 3rd trimester gravid female (not here at PC). 3rd trimester is the big building phase, and this is one among the important nutrients. Lots of issues there, but not here. For plain old non-gravid adults, special concern for O3FA intake does not rise to a high level for me. But perhaps Stevewoods wants to run with this.
Nah, I am more interested in the effectiveness of copper caps and agave juice in warding off virus...Wonder where I can get a 23-inch (58.5cm) copper cap for my head? And a discount on a barrel of El Patron?
FYI, my original taste testing of Jose Cuervo put it in the 'cheap vodka' class. Then I learned about 'tradicional' when I was up in Fayettville. Unlike Alabama state stores, Tennessee stores are privately owned and the owners wife had taken a course. The two small bottles, the silver and regular turned out to be both affordable and tasty. mild winter in USA this year? yup, looks like weather is the factor indeed: Modelling seasonal influenza: the role of weather and punctuated antigenic drift | Journal of The Royal Society Interface
Huh? I can barely abide such gloves when doing an oil change, they don't breath, get uncomfortable. We managed to wangle free flue shots at an in-store pharmacy back in October I think it was. Told them we had grandkids to contend with.
