Im at the toyota dealer in round rock. Before even looking at the car. The service writer is saying the fans are noisy in general on my 2014. It seems to kick on more often than not. And once it does it never shuts off. I told him i have a 2010 that doesnt make the noise and he says its a problem with newer ones 2012+ onward. Which is funny because several of the first posts were regarding 2011s. He says he'll mention it to the tech but i get the feeling they arent going to look. Guess ill email toyota corporate directly. Anybody want to post if you had your fan issues resolved and what the issue was?
welcome! it sounds more like a bad temp sensor, or circuit board controller, unless it's unusually hot down there. i have never heard my fan, even in the hottest (high 90's) weather. are you saying there are other threads discussing this problem?
Try to get more specifics from them: what fan(s) are they talking about. If it's the fans right behind the radiator in engine bay, they're tied into engine cooling and/or air conditioning. If they're running a lot could be engine overheating. There's a fan for cabin ventilation; I'd suspect that's not what they're on about. Then there's a fan under the hatch floor, for keeping the hybrid battery cool. It can accumulate dust/lint, get less efficient. Or it can run more if there's a problem with the battery. It could also be a service writer just trying to make more "sales". Hard to tell without more info.
does anyone recall any fan issues on newer models? maybe if dog hair or something? it's usually associated with an older weak hybrid battery.
good question. not sure if it's 12/12, 3/36, 5/60, or 8/100. of course, if they're trying to claim that noisy is normal...
