So I posted a while back that my oil at 13000 miles still looks clean at 34k on the Prius . Sent in an oil sample to Blackstone to see what's the break down on the oil. Like I said before I am impress with today synthetic oil and how well Toyota build their motor. Here is the result from blackstone. Talk to the lab person who analyze the oil. He said he's pretty impressed with Prius motor. He said with the results I can probably go 20k to 25K miles before the next Oil Change look at the result there hardly any breakdown in the oil but their Blackstone wants to analyze the oil at 2000 miles increments.
Sorry, Blackstone want to analyze the oil at 2000 increments. So I would sent it at 15k. If the oil still good they want me to send it in at 17K....
Especially with a brand-new car, I wouldn't go for any records. My 2 cents: there's no upside; it's better to an earlier first oil change.
I agree, synthetic oil and oil filter is cheap enough for me to change my oil at 15k. I'm not debating or arguing with anyone on how to take car of their car. Just want to pass on the info. That's what these forms are all about.
No its not free. It's cost $20 but it's funny my brother and friends wants to sent it in for there cars and trucks. I can see how this test can help out my friend diesel truck which takes 14 quarts of oil. What's interesting to talk to the lab person. I said he been doing this for a while. He said it amazing how advance synthetic oil has become. In the 80s you should change your oil at 3k because the oil is already broken down. He say with the synthetic oil nowadays can go 20k to 25K intervals on an oil change like BMW and Mercedes. Which I think is crazy but he said these test don't lie.
i agree with the tests. i guess the problem is, even if it's good at 13,000, they are not sure it will last. so testing every 2k gets as ore more expensive than changing the oil. but i wouldn't be surprised if oci's get longer and longer, as mfg.'s do their own testing.
