Looking for non dealer prius mechanics in san diego area. They have to be cheaper than $268 for a 30K checkup.

<_< Perhaps San Diego is different... OTOH, I'm SURE it is...

I haven't reached 30K miles yet, but at 15K, I simply specified "by the numbers" what I wanted done: Oil change (my oil 3½ qts Mobil-1 5W30, their filter); Perform the SSC-50P ECU flash; Rotate tires per Owner's Manual and air to my specs - 40/38 psi; Replace brakelight switch per recall; Texas State Vehicle Inspection -- total bill ~$84.00 and more than half of that was the State Inspection. I would likely have taken the Prius to my independent mechanic except for the ECU flash and brakelight switch. The same dealer's affiliated body shop installed my provided body side moulding at no charge in ~30 minutes. Oh yes... car washed, too.

AND... I bought the car elsewhere.

Be sure to check what your dealer is doing for $268. Most of the time, dealers make up their own list for maintenance, and MANY of things on their list are not required. Bring the maintenance book that come with the car and ask the dealer to perform the things listed in the book ONLY. That should make it cheaper.

Any mechanic should be able to do the routine maintenance.
