1. ...if I just drive at EV? 2. At what speed will the gas kick in 3. I read about push, sliding n coasting techniques driving a hybrid What is coasting? M not familiar with the jargon used in the US Collecting my 1st hybrid in June
Watch your MPG instant display and calibrate your foot. Takes about a year to perfect a calibrated foot. Be prepared for road rage, stay in the right lane, do not pass anyone, watch out for people pulling in front of you and slamming on the brakes, be prepared to be hated by everyone. "let the hate flow through you. " the Seth.
First, just drive the car. The new Gen-4 has more sophisticated control laws that have not been mapped. Using driving 'techniques' from older cars risk triggering fuel inefficient modes. Worse, you'll never know if they really worked. For now, we have a math model based upon measured roll-down coefficients; announced 40% thermal dynamic efficiency, and; some calibration points: Here is the metric version: Bob Wilson
The Gen 4 does the work for you. Just set cruise control when possible, else pick a speed, the slowest that you are comfortable with and drive. Forget about push, slide and coast. The car does it automatically if you drive 45 MPH or lower.
"Just drive the car." I like that. For the past 300 miles, I've been driving my Prius in the "Normal" mode. (I took it out of "Eco" mode.) The car seems to perform better and I have not noticed any decrease in fuel economy. I'm still averaging a steady 60 MPG! I don't do any special driving techniques... no "pulse and glide"... no coasting... I just drive in a normal fashion, keeping up with the flow of traffic. In fact, most of the time, I am passing the traffic. Fast & Furious, baby! 60 MPG.
Excellent advice, staying in the right lane ( driving lane all others are overtaking lanes ) comes naturally for me as I did and do that with any other vehicle driven. Road rage, still trying to master that bit LOL LG-H901 ?
Here's a screen shot of my latest 60 MPG. Only used 1/2 tank, and the computer says I still have 382 miles to go before refueling! Just driving normally... actually faster than average. I'm not going to hide behind large trucks in the right lane (throwing up rocks!) And I'm not going to give the crazy nuts a chance to tailgate me! Sixty miles per gallon is plenty... I'm not going to try and "eek" out anymore MPG. I guess I'm not your "typical" Prius owner/driver.
YIKES! Here in California, unfortunately, they'd run you off the road. (I finally gave up. I joined the fast & furious crowd. )
Owning a Prius is all it takes and occasionally sharing you experiences. PriusChat has 'honey pot' forums for the rest where we amuse ourselves vivisecting their claims to our delight. Here, you are safe. Bob Wilson
ok then, i will stick to my usual non-hybrid driving and forget about the push, glide and coast driving styles on youtube lol really excited about my Red Prius.
OK, I will try to fulfill my twisted promise. Please fell free to edit and add, Will work on this the next 10 years but here it is this minute in the space time continuum. Wish they all could be California squirrels The Southern squirrels are big and fat and big make juicy pies The Northern squirrels are skinny and fast and hide real good at night The Midwest squirrels are real dark and difficult to find The California squirrels run the cages at night and charge my Prius fine
I love animals and always treat them with respect, but after spending thousands and having attic invaded any squirrels using my roof moving forward is game for my miniature schnauzer lol LG-H901 ?
