I have a Viper SmartStart and sometimes forget to turn the AC down to LO and leave it in Auto. Is there any way to set the car to always start up with those AC settings?

    Cheers!

sorry, no. but if you leave it in auto, it should come on if the temp is higher than the setting.

LO is irrelevant. Set it to the lowest number possible. You'll get the same effect FWIW.

The car understands when the delta is large ... it will do what is necessary. leave it on 70 or whatever your normal setting.

I was away with a group of people last week -- two rental cars. People always turned down the ACC to "LO" and high fan ???? All this does is keep the compressor running and bring in hot air from outside in larger amounts vs what is required.

In "Auto" mode the system understands the car his very hot inside and recirculates the air for max cooling. Once the car is cooling down the system modulates the fan for both cooling and dehumidifying. They don't run high fan without recirculate.

When the fan is on high without 'recirculate" -- too much air is passing the evaporator. Cars have exhaust vents for the cabin -- high fan pushes all the cool air outside.

It took me most of the week to convince people to leave the ACC on 70 .. and let it do what it designers intended.

I leave my AC on auto on hot days. My question is, why does it take so long for the AC to come on once I start the car? Windows and doors closed, it takes a good ten seconds for air to start circulating. Til then, it's a long suffocating ten seconds.

I say it's a built in time lag. Remember, the internal temperature sensor gets hot on a sunny day. I'm pretty sure if you adjust temperature setting the "response time" is a couple of seconds. Also, when first turning on the Prius, the A/C system likely comes up to full pressure before kicking in the blower motor.

This is all very helpful info thanks. The reality is, when it's 114° outside, leaving it on Lo Auto feels a lot better when you get in than leaving it on 70° Auto. All personal preference I guess.

    Cheers!

It doesn't for my car. It blows full speed either way. According to the everything I read, the car will quickly get to temperature either way with that much differential. The only time it does different is if the differential were less say it was 80 outside and you want 70, then putting on LO will blow harder.

PS I also appreciate the delay. The car blows cold air outslowly at first to get the tubes conditioned then goes full blast. This is much preferred over full blast hot air in my face.

On hot days, I'll usually open all of the windows when I get in the car to let some of the hot air escape while waiting for the AC to kick in. As mentioned, I also leave the climate control system in Auto (at 72 DEGF.)
