Hi guys, when I bought my Prius it siaid I had 833 miles before I needed to put gas. When i finally did, it told me I had 749 miles until I need to put gas. The 2nd time I put gas, it said I had 700 miles before I need to put gas. Anyone knows what's going on? It's a new car, I got it with only 18 miles from the Toyota dealer. I've been driving it with Eco Mode on. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
It sounds as if the computer is learning your diving style to give you more accurate estimates. It can't know your history until you drive it, so it was high initially.
Great! That's very helpful. Wished it would just give me more mileage instead of learning. Hey but atleast its nothing wrong with it. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
How do I do that? Should I be using the EV Mode more often? I do it now, is that ok? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
NO. using the EV mode is counter productive. All the energy in the Battery comes from burning gas in the ICE. EV mode should only be used to move the car short distances at low speeds. If it was a plug-in and you could recharge the battery from the grid then it would be different . You appear to be getting great MPG now. Why change what you are doing by trying to "out-smart" the computer?
Makes sense, you guys are awesome! I was trying to to save even more, but will stop it if it's actually counterproductive. My job requires a lot of driving so was trying to squeeze more saving. So will only use Ev Mode when necessary. Any other easy way to save on gas? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
you could try pumping the tires up to 40 psi (38 rear). But, that didn't seem to help with my 2016. After 3 k miles the average is now about 59 MPG on the last two tanks.
hey oscar, learn the pulse and glide method. and tell us, what are you getting for mpg's when you manually calculate after filling the tank?
I saw yesterday I was doing average 66 mpg. I put gas yesterday night Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
After I fill up, the display shows I have 610 miles to empty. I guess it knows I always drive in the PWR mode. You can't fool the HAL-9000 computer.
