Well, I have searched for the answer to this question, and what I think that I have found is that you must have the hand-held tester to change any of the customized body electronics options that are found in this document. Is this correct, or has anyone been able to find a way to do this on without the tester? I picked up my '06 Seaside #5 last Friday, and I would like to have a couple of options changed. If it would save a trip to the dealer and possible charges, that would be wonderful. :D

    Thanks in advance!

    All the best,
    Matthew

I know you can set the door locking options without the tester but I dont have the link to that. I know its here somewhere.

Thanks. I was able to figure that much out myself, and will "Read my Manual" :D tonight when I get home to figure out how to do this. However, there are other options that I'd like to do, too. Particularly the "Key in trunk" option (though I may not have a good reason to do this) and the passive mode option - although the tech at the dealer that I talked to said that they turn this on as part of their pre-delivery checklist.

    All the best,
    Matthew

i don't think you can activate passive mode without the scantool. i don't recommend it actually... we had ours on passive for a week and changed it back. it was a serious pain. not so bad if you're the only one in the car at any given time... but otherwise, ick.

Other than having the passenger door be openable when the FOB is outside the driver's door, I'm coming to realize that I will likely not have anything else changed as I gained a better understanding of one option and realized that it was how I would like it already, and the reason that I had for changing another option (being able to open the trunk latch if the FOB is left in the trunk) simply does not make sense. I gotta laugh at myself for thinking that it is possible for someone to get locked in the trunk of a Prius. DOH!

And even having the passenger door open is something that must be done with the hand held tester on a 2006. After reviewing the manual tonight, I found that the manual specifically states that if you want this to happen, to contact your dealer. :( Must be that too many people found the option too hard to set in prior years and Toyota changed it for '06.
