No codes yet, but I got the red triangle, check engine, VSC and brake lights. So, a few days ago, driving home from work, I saw all the lights go off. Looking at the energy gauge, I saw that the battery somehow spontaneously lost all but one bar. Continuing to drive, I made it home without issue and the battery recharged itself fairly quickly. I test drove the car a bit and eventually all the warning lights went away - until yesterday when the same exact thing happened. I can pull codes but it seems like my HV battery is in its death throes. The car is 2007, has approximately 151k miles. I figure its out of warranty. Should I go refurbished battery or new (if possible)? What kinda repair costs am I looking at? Edit: Official Toyota dealership in my area is offering 2588 for the battery, 715 (!) for the labor.
You should get a proper code reader that can ready prius codes, it should show what's in it's history....if the codes went away. My guess is that you have a failed inverter pump, the lights will go off when the car cools, then come back on when it gets hot again. You can check the operation of the pump by looking into the inverter coolant reservoir and see if there's movement in the water. Movement will mean the pump works, no movement will mean the pump has failed.
I turned on the car and checked the inverter cooler tank. I saw some gentle turbulence when the engine was on. Running a health check using TIS now. Alright, here are my error codes (DTC) Hybrid Control: P3000 HV Battery: P0A80 Tire pressure monitors: C2121 and C2124 (no readings came from sensors 1 and 4, it looks like I may need to replace them. Yep time for a new hybrid battery. If the rest of the car is in excellent shape I would get the new Toyota battery and have another 10 years of driving.
PA080=failed hybrid battery Block 14 has a failed module. Block 8 is getting weak. 5 choices listed in order of costs: Replace with new toyota battery Replace with remanufactured battery Replace with another used battery Recondition current battery with grid charger Repair/replace failed module Here's what I did: My P0A080 fault code and battery rebuild | PriusChat
Yes a full discharge/recharge with an HA system may work as the blocks aren't to bad just the one but not sure how technically handy the op is. Worth a try.
your going to have to replace that bad module most likely. why take the time to tear it all down just to put back in a failing part.
