How I got 6 quarts out of....

You shouldn't have more than you put in, unless you're leaking coolant into the engine through the head gasket.

The engine can burn oil, which will give you less oil than you put in. Never more.

 

he put the correct amount in & then kept filling up until the reading on the dipstick was right /

 

I can't imagine this engine would work with 6qts of oil

 

You must have gotten the prius V8, that one holds more oil.

You already have gotten Blackstone report on this? That's pretty fast

yes, take it to jiffy lube, they'll put in 8 quarts for you, then leave the drain plug loose.

 

On that note, at my last JiffyLube visit I provided a Toyota filter and said ..." just change the oil and use this Toyota filter. Don't check the air filters."

They ignored this and pulled both the air filter and the cabin air filter; and took both over to the Foreman, i.e. salesman. The salesman started to tell me about needing new air filters. Sigh, I just changed those two months ago and they couldn't need replacing yet .

I know they legalized marijuana in some states, so best not to do oil changes afterward. Hard to keep track of how much you actually put in

Fascinating.

I could understand once the engine is started oil goes to the valve train, piping, journals etc.
So draining hot there remains oil in cavities of the engine and not draining down.

Draining cold, the oil had time to revert/ drain back to the oil pan.

So I guess my first question is upon a complete engine rebuild how much oil should be added?

If dip stick is correct, then just follow the oil change directions and verify the level on the stick.

This sounds most likely.

Most engine fill specs are conservative. You can safely run with much less and you won't do damage with significantly more. It could have gone bad, but it likely did not.

The tech manual (if not the driver's manual) should specify how much oil goes in after the motor is drained. One figure if just changing the oil. Another figure if you also replace the filter (as it holds X amount of oil if not removed).

 

i demand a video, showing complete drain, refill, drain and measurements!
