I already love this guy but now we learn he died not long after eating bacon. Man o man. Ötzi the Iceman Was Making Prosciutto Over 5,000 Years Ago
What this says to me is that it's proof that it was as at least as warm 5000 years ago as it is today. Pre 5000 was warmer than today and the cadaver was entombed as the Earth cooled.
Our dear Otzi was killed and his corpse was quickly snowed under. If not it would have soon decomposed. There it stayed (in the freezer) until it melted out. Would have to look back to see how his discovery went. Must have been soon after emergence, otherwise, meat goes pretty fast. If everyone else is busy, I'm happy talking Otzi with you mojo. He is my favorite person from then, and you score at least in my top 10,000 currently.
Saw the NOVA special a few months back and read a little about him. Amazing find and gift to science and its explorers.
Otzi is way more than proof medieval warm period was not 'all that' (or else he would have thawed then and all his 'data' gone to CO2). Unique view into Euro-life 5300 years ago. A real treasure. Ötzi the Iceman, Museum of Archaeology Bolzano Ötzi, the Iceman - Archaeology Magazine I hope that more of his peers can be found in the current meltdown on Euro mountains.
Other bodies and artifacts are melting out in various mountain settings. OK, it is a silver lining to gain access through these windows to the past. But 'finders' are not everywhere all the time. Meat or wood left on the surface above freezing degrade, sooner or later. Those that get found too late, the window closes.
