It is based on the date of first use.

Ok, it looks like the T-SB-0172-09 only covers the repair under the New Vehicle Limited 3 Yr/36 month warranty. There was then an extension program (Warranty Enhancement – ZTV), the details of which are attached. There is reference to a Warranty Policy Bulletin (Bulletin No. POL12-05) for identification of vehicles covered by this Warranty Extension. I do not have these details to hand.

And finally, the last piece of the puzzle I was just reminded of by my wife was:

The last time I brought it to the dealer to inquire about this whole mess they also told me I would need to show it has a clean title or hasn't been in any accidents. It has in fact been in a small fender bender and has a dent left on the driver's side to show it, but afaik I'm pretty sure the title is clean. However, since we are still paying the bank back for this vehicle, I do not have title in hand and am not sure how to go about proving my Prius has a clean title to the dealership. Is this standard procedure for all dealerships to require this?

I'll leave that to some local folk to answer, all I can say I can't recollect anyone mentioning those conditions. But don't trust my memory, I don't. lol.

There is this note in the coverage paragraph:

"Please note that damage incurred from abuse, an accident, vandalism or non-warrantable causes are not covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty or this Warranty Extension."

I think they would need to be able to prove beyond reasonable doubt the CM was damaged by your fender bender.

Personally, after all you've said about this dealer, I would be incline to find another, even if I had to drive another 100 miles. Just my opinion.

No worries, my memory is awful too when it comes to remembering specifics. Lol.

I saw that clause too when reading through. Luckily I have a TON of dealers to choose from between East Bay and SF that I pass by daily. If the local one close to home really doesn't want to work with me then I will definitely be looking elsewhere.

Thanks a lot for your time and info on this thread. Feeling a bit more assured I will get this fixed sooner than later now that I know I have options. I am generally pretty hands on DIY but my time is more valuable than ever these days and it'd be easiest for me to just let Toyota do it... If I can find a reasonable dealership that is.

Sounds good, it is good to have options. I hope it all works out for you in the end.

    All the best.

    Check your oil level.

    Say what?

Low oil pressure will light up the big red triangle. On hard stops or turns the oil can slosh around enough for the oil pump to suck air.

Find a dealer that will do the combo meter. All you have to do is say you have the problem.

I check my oil daily as this damn thing consumes around 1 quart of oil every 1000+ miles. It started consuming oil around 100k mi I think... either that or I just never noticed it when I first purchased the vehicle orrr it could be I used to drive it much slower than I do now. I have a small theory that my oil loss may be more related to high speeds, engine rpms, and engine air speeds, but I haven't got the time or desire to thoroughly test and compare all the data. Unfortunately, mine is not the first Gen 2 I have heard of exhibiting this behavior beginning aroun 100k mi. I have tried a couple of flushes and cleaning treatments, but at this point there probably isn't much I can do besides keep on top of it.

I just scheduled my appointment with the dealer in the next closest city with much better reviews than my local Toyota dealer. I will have the PDF referenced prior printed and in-hand to help them if needed. ;)

As it turns out, I finally got my mVCI (driver version 1.4.7) off the ground with TSv9 and got into all my Prius's goodies.
    I have the following codes:

    --B1271 [Combination Meter Failure]
    ------------ this one is obvious

    --B1421 [Passenger Solar Circuit Malfunction]
------------ I'm not too concerned about this one based on what I have read.

--P1121 [Coolant Control Valve Position Sensor Stuck]
------------ another common issue on Gen 2 Prius

--P0420 [Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)]
------------ which I suspect is related to my car's age/mileage and its love for oil

It is my understanding that both of these faults should be able to be repaired by dealer under CA CARB 150/15 Warranty since they fall under emissions parts- correct?

I still have more research to do before my appointment tomorrow but any input certainly welcome.
