When I turn on my headlights at night. Does anyone know why this happens? It just started happening all of a sudden. When I turn the headlights off, everything is turns back on.
Have you tried turning the dimmer switch? Does it have any effect on the dash illumination brightness? It might be turned all the way down, so it appears to be off, but it's just too dim to see.
When that happens to me it's always because I've knocked the dimmer knob schlepping something in or out of the car. I usually keep my instrument lights fairly dim anyway, so it only takes a small bump of the knob to turn them off. The dimmer knob on my car can definitely be turned down far enough that the VFD instruments go completely dark—I think those have a certain minimum brightness possible, below which they just flicker out. They're not just too dim to see. -Chap
