I know @bisco drove his wife's car down to Florida. Perhaps he has been bad and had his PriusChat rights curtailed. either that, or he is getting tired of the website issues like the rest of us.
I have been slow to respond because I have been away on business & training. A long 8 hour drive home tomorrow.

Actually the company rented a Chrysler 300.
The other two guys insisted on driving so I just rode in the trip down here to Nashville Tennessee. Unfortunately, they decided to pick me up at 3:30AM to start the trip
We will leave to go home at a more reasonable hour.

Kris, sorry to learn that your wrist is still not healed, but glad you found a solution to your hypothetical muse.
FWIW, the answer could have been to fill the generator tank 1st then try using the uncertain container to hold extra gas at the last moment. I'd add two caveats to that; first rinse the container with a small volume of gas to purge as much potential contamination as reasonable and discard the residue as you consider fit. Second, store the jug in a metal box or tray able to contain any fuel that could leak out and that should be in a safe location outside the residence.

If it might be in the tank a while. I would add some Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer too.

Why's that? What would it do to assist the process?

    Fuel with ethanol attracts water.
Temperature variations can cause condensation in the fuel tank. This can be minimized by keeping the tank full.
Sta-Bil can also prevent the fuel from "gimming up".

If they fill the generator tank and do not use it for months, it could become an issue.

BTW, I made it back home at a reasonable hour. :D

    OP again.

Got the snow, but only about four inches.

Lost power, but only for about 45 minutes.

After putting tires chains on at 6 a.m., was able to drive to town yesterday. Chains not needed on late afternoon return home, although the lack of chains made the drive "interesting" at about 40-yard mark and the 300-yard mark on the driveway.

There was mention of filling the generator beforehand as a precaution. Don't really like to do that, because the generator only gets used on rare occasions -- winter of 2015/16, it did not get used at all.

Once a month, all the generator gasoline that is stored (premium, non-ethanol) is put into the cars and a new supply is purchased.

With a monthly turnover schedule, I wouldn't have thought filling the generator would have been too bad better to run them regularly anyway for test /maintenance reasons. Glad you survived injury free anyway. :)
