would it save time to force charge till you get green bars (car running in gear with foot on break and gas)? I know it is only 80% but I have 4 cars to charge and balance this week. thanks in advance
green bars don't mean chit. You have to take the HV battery pack apart to balance the modules individually.
That helps. Are you just charging, or doing a full reconditioning? If doing just charge balancing, getting the HV battery as full as you can will reduce the time on the Hybrid Automotive Charger. 4 cars to maintain seems like a good use of the Hybrid Automotive technology. What years and mileage are the 4 Prii at?
Don't rush the process, do it correctly, just charge when you go to bed, it'll be charged when you wake up
just charge and balance this time (full 3 cycle recon on all 4 cars in 3 months). I own 2 2007s 120k ish on each, my parents own 2 2008's dads is around 100k moms 120k
after about 1 year (once every 3 months) 2 recons a year 2 charge and balance. moms car is getting 10mpg better, the other 3 cars 5-7 mpg better
How long have you had the charger and discharger? How many full reconditioning cycles have you performed? We have a 2010 Prius II with over 150 k miles on it. Have done one charge and balance. Waiting on the new intelligent discharger to arrive early next month and will perform the first reconditioning cycle over Memorial Day. I'll be bulbless.
I don't think people should mess with their batteries unless you feel the performance has deteriorated. Every time you discharge below 7.2v, you are potentially damaging the cells. You only should do that when necessary, when the pack is out of balance or seem really weak. The car was designed to have a maintenance free battery
reconed all 4, 2 times. this will be the 3rd charge and balance (the very 1st time I just did a charge and balance on all 4 the light bulb thing scared me a bit) bought a int. dis-charger, I wouldn't buy one for 1 car but since i have 4 it was worth it
