Hi Gang...... Just figured out how to get in here. Last Friday I was all excited when my odometer on my 05 was at 299,998, watched it go to 299,999 and then it locked up. So I came on here and find that this is a real problem. I went to my dealer and of course they are playing dumb at this point. I told them that I had been to the forum and that this appears to be a common problem with those of us who are high mileage folks and that it must be either a firm ware or soft ware problem and would the please check for service bulletins. The are checking. Has anyone else got a dealer who had corrected the issue for them. This is a design problem? Of course the dealer wants $125+ to hook me up to the computer to diagnose the problem. I told them that the should be giving us new cars, or at least not charge us for fixing the problem that is built in to the car. So if anyone has obtained a solution I would love to have it and pass on to my service manager.
Odometers from 2004 and 2005 will not go past 299,999 miles or kilometers. Learn to live with it because Toyota will not do anything about it for you. You will need to use the trip meters to keep track from now on. I'm still 61K miles away so my odometer will function for the next three years or so.
Yes, it is a design flaw in the 2004-2005 Gen II that was corrected in the 2006 facelift. I don't think Toyota envisaged these cars would still be on the road after 300,000 mi. I don't believe there is an official Toyota fix for this. But, if you contact Texas Hybrid Batteries (member of this site) – click on the link in my sig to read about it – he has a solution to fix this problem. His price is very reasonable too.
