Ok - just had the transaxle replaced on my 10 mo. old 2005 Prius (16,00 mi). 2 weeks later and the fuel guage will not go down until several trips and 110-145 miles on the car. Then it starts going down from the "full" position so it is not registering accurately for the full tank.

The dealer "recalibrated" and wants me to try several more tanks to see how it does. Anyone with experience with this problem?

my fuel gauge has never dropped the first bar before 100 miles. once it went over 150.

the gauge is not linear, and takes much longer for the first half of the bars to drop than for the second half.

that's normal and reason for many of us jokingly terming the thing the "guess gauge"

Very interesting comment since mine has always appeared to be very accurate until the transaxle was replaced.

For how many tanks have you noticed this behavior?

I think I have gotten as much as 200 miles before my first bar drops but usually around 170ish.

3 tanks before I took it to the dealer. The car had 17000 mi on it at the time. The transaxle was replaced at 16,000 and this had not happened before.
