Does anyone know if any company or dealer can install Hand controls for disabled people? We need to be able to control the break or accelerator by hand. Driver has use of left foot so maybe only need accelerator control. The Prius does have cruise control so i was wondering if this was easy to do. Thanks
Here is one company that makes hand controls: Toyota handcontrols by Kempf presents the digital accelerator ring and main hand brake for cars as hand controls for handicap vehicle and trucks They also have another option to consider, an accelerator pedal for the left foot: left foot switchable electronic accelerator pedal or gas pedal for handicap vehicles There are several other makers of automotive hand controls; here are a few: MPS Hand Controls | Over forty years of making quality driving devices for the physically challenged veigel-automotive.de - hand controls Products - DADC I expect all of these manufacturers can refer you to local dealers or installers. You might also try asking your Toyota dealer or contacting the Toyota Mobility Assistance Center (800-331-4331). The Toyota Mobility website mentions hand controls, but it doesn’t give much information about specific vehicle applications, and it seems to apply mostly to new vehicles.
Thanks. My local Toyota dealer did not have a kit for hand controls. Do you know if these are legal and if you need a doctors certificate to drive with hand controls or California DMV Disability placard? This is only for a temporary cast on right foot for 2 months.
