PriusChat is US-based but we are getting more and more international owners/members and it's easy to get lost in all the US-specification talk. This thread helps differentiate between the two regions and hopefully shine a light on the differences (either in terminology or actual differences in features). The most obvious is in the name. US/Canada uses "Prius Prime". The EU uses "Prius PHV". I've attached a PDF listing the specifications for USA, Canada, UK and Japan. Think of it like ECO mode - it provides a bit more resistance on the pedal to limit unnecessary harder acceleration.
From reading the brochure it seems that the version here in Britain does the same as the US. This is from the brochure here in the UK iPhone ?
Rear fog light is mandatory equipment in EU. Correct me if I'm wrong but automatic high beam and array LED comes standard also in US. There is also JBL audio system option in EU, do you get that in US?
Automatic Hi-beam, LED array, front LED foglights, HUD, Stolen Car Locator, and JBL 10 speaker system are standard in U.S. Prime Advanced. This is only partial list of toys! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Has EV Auto been confirmed as Exactly the same as EU EV? There was some conflicting info in the other thread. LED array and LED adaptive array are two different things. The Prime has LED arrays in all markets. Because of outdated vehicle codes, the LEDs can only operate in a low or high beam manner. So when an oncoming car is detected, the auto high beam function turns all the headlight output down to low beam. Adaptive headlights will only turn down the output that is hitting the oncoming car, leaving the rest of the are lit by highbeams.
I wouldn't separate Britain from EU ... I mean, there is only one Prius Plug-in Manual for EU, see Toyota Europe that can be found on Toyota UK as well. If it's possible, I would suggest the 3rd column for Japan.
I think this it's misleading. It.s not about pedal response mapping (which of course is an included but separate and different feature of the car), this mode actually reduces the car's available power by using single and not dual motors. The effect upon range is that Toyota claim up to 39 miles range in EV city. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
One manual doesn't necessarily mean one spec. In plenty of places the manual says "if equipped". Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
From Toyota engineer when i was on Auto show he said That high beams will not be active if the camera and sonar sense moving incoming car where drivers side LED will deam one of LED projectors Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I agree, but we can see one strategy for all EU countries. At present, only the expensive Advanced Level (+ Solar or Parking Pack). Anyway, "if equipped" is an interesting point in the EU Manual. There are two groups: #1 (if equipped): HUD, BSM (Blind Spot Monitor), S-IPA (Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System), ICS (Intelligent Clearance Sonar), Toyota parking assist-sensor, Mode 3 charging cable, Solar charging system, Double locking system, Alarm, Intrusion sensor, speed unit changing (km/h mph), Auxiliary boxes Type B/C, Wireless charger -> that can be explained by Solar/Parking/Alarm Packs. #2 (if equipped): Traction Battery Cooler, Charging mode "Departure" incl. Air conditioning-linked setting (“Climate Prep”), -> that is difficult to explain, moreover, it's only a case of the EU Manual (pp.142) Any ideas? Functionality (EU Manual): 1. Traction Battery Cooler -> "When the hybrid battery (traction battery) is hot, this function protects it by using the vehicle air conditioning to cool it before charging is carried out." ... "When the charging mode is set to 'Start', cooling starts at the set charging start time. When the charging mode is set to 'Departure', cooling starts approximately 30 minutes before the charging start time." 2. Charging mode 'Departure' -> "Starts charging to finish at the set time. When this setting is selected, the air conditioning linked function can be used."
Trollbait is correct. The system can selectively switch off lighting for PART of the road ahead to avoid other drivers being dazzled. It can do more than this too. It Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Isn't that just the NEDC number? I'd be a little surprised if the dual motors are even used on any official test cycle. Which is neat, but we can't get it in the US. Our regulations are the reason for that difference.
Please see the first post. I've attached a PDF of the features for Canada, USA, UK and Japan. Hope it was worth it. It took several hours.
Added another difference. The charging schedule in the EU can only be adjusted through the 4.2" MID, using the pad. Vehicles in the US and Japan with the 11.6" screen can add/edit/delete schedules using the 11.6" MFD.
