What is the Hybrid battery lifetime?

There's 4 main factors that affect battery life:
1. Number and depth of charge-discharge cycles
2. Age
3. Storage temperatures, the higher the worse; garaged Prii and those in cooler climets have longer battery life. I suspect with enough data you could show that white Prii have longer battery lives than black...
4. Battery maintenance - how long the battery ever went without being used, etc. The car's battery will last the longest if driven daily.

135k is low, but your batteries are old; considering the batteries were probably made in 2004, they're now 13 years old. There are a high number of failures around the 12-15 year mark reported here, mostly 04-06s, due to age (and mileage to a lesser degree). However, those who drive 50k/year can often push 300k out of a battery over 6 years, so I wouldn't say there's a given number; it's mostly a combination of age and mileage.

 

they are probably designed to get most of them somewhere past warranty, which is 10/150 in carb states. as mentioned above, a number of factors can effect their life both negatively, and positively.
some experts here believe that gen 3battery is not as robust as gen 2. only time will tell.

Milage has relatively nothing to do with battery degradation. Its the age. Some times these batteries can last up to 12 years or more as it really depends. I have 175k miles on my 2009 Prius with very little degradation based on my TechStream diagnostic computer.

 

Our previous Prius (the 2006) had the battery fail at 9 1/2 years and 125,000 miles. It seems early but it was obvious from the paint job that the car was not garaged and kept out in the southern California sun. Most likely it degraded due to the heat.

There is total of 168 cells in the HV battery pack.

How long is a battery pack is useful people often look at remaining capacity and also the ability the pack to hold voltage under load.

 

How can you check the current state of your hybrid batteries?

 

Need techstream software to do it a high level but Dr Prius a phone app used with a bluetooth dongle or wifi like Carista.
