Jimbo that is actually technically a good analogy - just remember the shit (electrons) flows backwards.
If you forget that, well you might get some on you.

One of the coolest things about my years as an industrial electrician was that most everyone else thought what we did was black magic. In fact, it was hard not to let it go to your head that you could fix stuff that was a total mystery to the average observer and some of the guys in the shop did develop a bit of a swagger. Someone once referred to us a prima donnas. I replied, "We are NOT prima donnas; we are arrogant prima donnas."

At the DBA level of abstraction, the shit is data, it could be hamsters below that for all I care! <G>
(As a PC tech, I care that it is electrons, I had give up wearing my wedding ring I was shocked so much)

Interestingly, chemists often refer to organic synthesis as "pushing electrons". May be less intuitive than pushing them through conductors and special places for storage and resonance.

I really hope they dismiss the charge. He has a degree in engineering, and it's definitely within his 1st amendment rights to criticize, using engineering analyses or not. He's not even falsely representing himself as an engineer (he's got a degree), which is also a first amendment right and not illegal, so long as it isn't used as part of contract or for work. I'd rather see them attack his analysis, which is fair game and something they obviously weren't able to do.

Having a degree in electrical engineering, I looked at getting a PE certification years ago before I switched career paths into quality engineering in medical devices (where PE is meaningless, other certifications are much more important). My opinion was it was of little use other than an extra item on my resume.

Oh and everyone knows that the reason electronics work is that there's magic smoke trapped inside of them. That's why if the smoke gets let out, it stops working :D

Exactly. When I was in the factory and a motor failed, I'd send it to the repair shop with a tag that either said, "bearing failure" or "Blue smoke escaped. Please re-install blue smoke." They always knew what I wanted. LOL!

From back in the 80's I remember a SCOTUS or Fed appeals ruling against a government body in Washington state that refused to pay an engineering consulting firm because they didn't have PE's after service had been rendered. They never represented themselves as PE's nor was that a requirement in the contract. Something to do with a bridge I think.

Wash. DC urban legend. K st lobbyist/government affairs guy got tired of having to put up with Wash. DC peoples shit. He quits his job and goes back to school and becomes a civil engineer. Helps design DC's Blue Plains sewage treatment plant.

    How I got here?
Found the limit of MS Excel. 1.5gb csv file #rows? I have no idea.

This message can appear due to one of the following:
The file contains more than 1,048,576 rows or 16,384 columns. To fix this problem, open the source file in a text editor such as Microsoft Word. Save the source file as several smaller files that conform to this row and column limit, and then open the smaller files in Microsoft Excel. If the source data cannot be opened in a text editor, try importing the data into Microsoft Access, and then exporting subsets of the data from Access to Excel.
The area that you are trying to paste the tab-delineated data into is too small. To fix this problem, select an area in the worksheet large enough to accommodate every delimited item.
    Notes
Excel cannot exceed the limit of 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns.
By default, Excel places three worksheets in a workbook file. Each worksheet can contain 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns of data, and workbooks can contain more than three worksheets if your computer has enough memory to support the additional data.

I have some lawyer friends who are wonderful people.

BUT! I've heard that scientists are starting to use lawyers rather than rats now in their experiments. It seems that the lawyers are more plentiful. Also, the scientists are less likely to become emotionally attached to the lawyers. ......... And there are some things that even rats won't do.
