Hello, my car's check engine light came on and lo and behold it was the less than ideally tightened fuel cap that was the culprit. Either way, I used my obd 2 scanner to erase the codes and my cars check engin light went away but my obd 2 reader still read p1423 permanent. Should I be concerned? Or am I fine because the check engine light is gone and haven't come back on yet? Pictures included for reference. iPhone ?
Why did you erase the code without the problem fix? I would look into the fuel leak since that's a safety concern. Have a shop do a fuel leak test to see where the leak is coming from. erasing the code is just ignoring the problem. Hope you get it resolved.
It was his fuel cap that wasn't tightened, he said so, which would give a "gross fuel leak" if you went round a corner.
Most codes go away themselves after x number of starts (boot ups if you like) if the fault is rectified, but they are usually logged. IIRC you can clear codes yourself in maintenance mode (can't remember if that includes logged codes).
Some codes are permanently logged, they won't turn the check engine light on, it's just that there is a permanent log of it. If the light doesn't come back on after the readiness monitors are complete then you are good to go. Hope this helps.
