2nd owner of a Prius, first was an 06, traded in for the v wagon at just over 200k miles when the main traction batter went tits up. Aside from horrific headlight issues, never had any other problems, certainly didn't burn any appreciable amounts of oil. Wagon is now at around 145k, looks like we're solidly in the oil burning engine group. Started like many others, wife mentioned a light on the dash periodically, but wasn't sure which one because it just flickered every once in a while. Finally saw it while driving, oil light... Always changed the oil at regular intervals, yes, I should have checked it myself but with previous Prius experience, oil consumption just never crossed my mind. Checked it, barely reading on the dipstick. Started adding/tracking, we're at roughly a quart every 600 miles. Unfortunately, that's about a week of driving... Also, the bloody headlights on this thing burn out constantly, probably every 4-6 months. The upside, I've gotten really good at swapping the bulbs out, can do both in under five minutes now. Really disappointed. Have a 2004 X5 with similar mileage, barely uses any oil all though it has plenty of its own issues (plastic pulleys in window regulators!?!?!?!).
Perhaps Luscious Garage has ideas. I expect brand name bulbs should last longer. Light Bulbs - Luscious Garage | Hybrid Specialists
My wife is a bit of a lead foot. Roughly 130 miles round trip every day, much of it in the dark. Oh, up hill both ways...
