Guy on CL says the GM charger was $650 new and says the eBay charger is cheap and "will probably work for a week". Is it better to get the GM charger? He also has a 220V for $250 as well but I would need to upgrade outlet in garage. Premium Electric Vehicle Charger EV Level 1 110 -220 Volt 16A for Leaf New | eBay $166 on Amazon:
Your Amazon link shows a cord that does not seem to include the actual charger. Make sure you are not paying for a connector and a long cord, that you would still need to connect to your own charger brick. One reviewer pointed this out and gave the product only a single star for not mentioning that detail. At least the eBay item is complete.
I went with the eBay charger for $175. Had no idea if it would work since the 220K-plus mile prius I bought didn't have one in vehicle. Well, it worked. Lights up on fuel tank, lights up charging on charger. Displays on dash with time remaining. Take roughly 3 hours or so and dash shows about 11 or 12 miles in EV mode. It's a pretty cool feature but I know this will be considered "a classic" in about 1 or 2 years. A friend just bought a 2018 Honda Clarity that is 100% electric and goes 90 miles per charge. I'm sure that will double in 5 years.
I think your friend may not be clear on the Clarity. Yes, MPGe is in the 100 range, and yes, the propulsion is 100% electric, albeit with a supplemental gasoline generator, but actual EV miles are just 47. Still, that's 4x better than the PIP, and the base price ain't half bad.
My 2017 volt charger works fine on my Prius and the volt charger can run level 1 or level 2 all I did was make a 110 to 220v adapter for the plug and it charges level 2. I charge my volt level 2 everyday and my prius on level 1.
