I've spent a few hours over the last couple of days trying to figure this out, but apparently I suck at finding just the right collection of search parameters, because I'm getting nowhere and I can't keep devoting so much time towards something that someone here likely knows right off the top of their head: 1) Is the wiring for the connectors going into the ECU aluminum? If so, 2) What is the correct way to splice the copper wiring from the remote starter to them in order to prevent the Al/Cu corrosion issue? (what few splicers I've seen online that claim to work for this case are using a blade made of one or the other of those materials, so the two metals still aren't separated!) I'm in a bit of a hurry to find the answer, considering I've *already* finished installing it just yesterday...
Are you referring to the remote engine starter sold under Toyota part number PT398-47110? If so, according to the installation instructions (PDF), there is no splicing of wires; you just connect the RES wire harness supplied with the accessory, which was presumably designed for compatibility with the existing terminals. As Toyota writes in Electrical Circuit Diagnosis: Course 623 Technician Handbook, their usual convention is that “Aluminum wire is indicated by lavender-colored wire insulation and lavender color in the EWD [Electrical Wiring Diagram].” The EWD for the 2010 Prius (EM1291U) should indicate if such wiring is used for connections to any specific ECU (electronic control unit) among the dozens of ECUs on the vehicle. Both of these documents are available by subscription to techinfo.toyota.com.
No, it's a DBALL2 I bought online last year (long story short, mother became ill and by the time she passed away, it was too cold to work outside on it, then it became low priority until it started getting cold this year); here's the install manual: directechs.blob.core.windows . net/documents/dball-dball2-tl2-rsr_en_ig_cp20150706.pdf I purchased a kit that came with the T-harness, so page 10 is what I used, which requires splicing into 3 wires on the ECU...
That's the one I used. Find the 3 colored wires listed on the ECM as the pic shows. ECM is located behind the panel left of the steering wheel. Us T-snap wire connectors. Should be able to find any parts house. follow the instructions and it works slick.
I installed it by cutting the wires and using crimp connectors. Were the connectors you used designed in such a way as to maintain separation between aluminum and copper metals? Or is this maybe something that isn't a concern for low voltage signal wires..?
