I'm fairly new to the feel and sounds of the Prius hybrid system and drivetrain. I am noticing in ECO mode a couple seconds after takeoff right where a normal automatic trans would shift, a thump or even two thumps in the drivetrain and was wondering what that was. It's not bad per se but feels strange and doesn't seem natural. Any ideas? Car has 63k on it..very well maintained according to the carfax.
Just a guess..... You may be feeling the ice coming on.... Viewing the Multi-info-screen may verify this..
If you are up to speed, you may be feeling the ICE shutting down because you are backing off of the gas pedal to maintain the selected speed. This would be normal.
It's strange how everyone on the Prius Owner's social media group say the opposite of everything here. I think it's the ICE turning on under acceleration in ECO mode.
Why yes we do, I usually plan an annual cruise, you just missed one a few weeks ago. I maybe planning another event around the start of the new year. Keep an eye out under events.
As my previous reply; ice turning off or on can be verified by viewing the multi-info.screen... You can then SEE if this is in fact the cause of the THUMP
Also instead of making a new thread, do you guys have any idea why after disarming factory alarm when I open the hatch or any other door the horn toots twice again (after it's disarmed)? Could that be 12v battery getting low or something? It's highly annoying.
