The center display on my Volt nicely separates the gas and electric usage so you can see how far you drove on each and what the mpg/mpge were since the last full charge. I'm struggling to figure out how to see that on our Prius Prime Plus. The Eco-Diary display (page 223) has a Daily screen for electric which shows miles/kWh, which is good enough for that I suppose (I could convert to MPGe if I wanted), but the gas screen shows an MPG number that I believe is the total including EV driving (otherwise, I'm getting 70 mpg on hybrid which I don't believe). Is this as good as it gets, or am I missing something?
I did (it's a 2017). The Prime is for my wife (although I plan to steal it for drives whenever possible!).
I see now how you can set pages 221 ("Drive Monitor") and 222 ("Drive Monitor 2") to give me current trip info (set "Trip" to the flag icon). That will give me EV miles/kWh for the trip (instead of Daily or Monthly like the "Eco-Diary"), but I still can't see isolated HV mpg. The Eco-Diary will give me Daily or Monthly combined (not HV-only) mpg. I'd like to be able to compare to the estimated 54 mpg number.
Et Tu @bisco? The Prius metrics have always left a lot to be desired. In the past, I used miniVCI with Techstream to record data for subsequent analysis. But that was back when I was trying to understand the dynamics of the Prius hybrid mode. Since that part has not significantly changed, I'm less concerned about that level of detail but am sympathetic to the desire to find out. Is there a goal to your studies? Bob Wilson
I mainly don't like combining electric MPGe and gas/hybrid MPG into one number. They aren't really the same. I'd rather see them independently.
What I would love love LOVE to have is the ability to enter the current gas and electric prices and have it display the estimated costs.
It's still there but only gas prices. He wants both. That's actually a good idea since it can also display how much you're saving but using electricity.
I agree with this goal although sometimes, back of the envelope works 'good enough.' From fuel economy.gov: Volt in Huntsville 31 kWh/100 mi ($0.10/kWh) = $3.10/100 mi 2.4 gal/100 mi ($2.10/gal) = $5.04/100 mi Prime in Huntsville 25 kWh/100 mi ($0.10/kWh) = $2.50/100 mi 1.9 gal/100 mi ($2.10/gal) = $3.99/100 mi The advantage of vehicle based metrics is it handles the range difference, ~25 mi Prime vs ~53 mi Volt. So vehicle metrics solves a problem of the owner's driving opportunity or pattern. Bob Wilson
I'd also like to see the gas only display, and I also cannot find it anywhere. Seems like they always mix in the electric part as near infinite. My gas display always says 199.9 until I need the ICE, and then it slowly comes down. So they combine the two "mileages". The funny thing is that Toyota is calculating it, it's used to come up with remaining gas-only range. But I swear it's not displayed anywhere, or at least I cannot find it. I'll try looking at the Drive Monitor and then flipping through the trip display as I new see it says in the manual. It's not obvious that you have to bring up that particular display in the middle, and then change it with the trip display button. Everything else in the middle changes with the up/dn arrows.
