Hi all So I got the P0A80 code. I am trying to see if I should get a Toyota battery or a rebuilt. The advice I am hearing is to go to Toyota, however most of the rebuilt I've seen offer a longer warranty. My local Toyota dealer only offers a 1yr warranty, if their products is so good, why only 1yr? and it costs a few hundred $$$ more. Also does anyone have any experiences with Dorman 587-001 battery? I can get this from a few local places so I can save on shipping. I am in Northeast Ohio, if anyone has other places they recommend, please advise. Thank you.
See the link in my signature to see what I did when confronted with the same code in my 2006. GOOD LUCK!
the toyota battery is new, so the warranty doesn't matter. the other places won't likely last the warranty, and good luck getting service. if you're keeping the car, get a new oem, or at least a new one from our member here.
pleasure, and shop around, toyota batteries have dropped in price, and some dealers are more competitive than others. all the best!
I have had a good luck with rebuilt for $1.1K cash installed with 25K mileage warranty. It's going strong @ 40K mileages after replacement. Tech came with rebuilt battery in his PrII and swapped it out in hour or so in my driveway.
Update. So I went ahead and bought a new Toyota battery ($1650 plus tax, they had a 15% off deal). I figure it would be wise to spend the extra few hundred because I plan on keeping the car till it dies (Currently 125k). Install the battery myself, took about 3 hrs total time, removal and install. All codes are cleared. Hook it up to Techstream, not detecting any more DTC. Question. Does the Toyota battery come fully charged? I am hovering between 4-6 bars, haven't driven it for longer than 20 minutes yet. Also with the new battery, what range in terms of bars should I be getting? We don't have lots of hill, mainly flat roads.
You can try these guys: Classic / Modern automotive repair. - automotive services Just looked them up in NE OH craigslist....It's all labor and parts are dirt cheap so should not be over $600 for rebuild but I have no idea what they charge. EDIT: Didn't see your update.
I got it from Sunnyside Toyota in North Olmsted, OH on Lorain Rd. Keep in mind that it's just the battery, it doesn't come with the module/controller that is connected to the battery so you will need to remove it from your old one and install it to the new one which is really simple.
That is a great price for the battery! I paid $2400 for my new one installed and felt that was a steal!
$2400 installed is not a bad price. Funny thing is that Sunnyside was the only one selling at that price and only took 1 business day to get it. All the other local was selling it for $1950.
