Turning off screen extends battery range?

So the battery in my laptop which runs my 15" screen for around 7 hours is 44Wh....Something less than 6Wh/hour to run the entire laptop.

The prius battery is 8.8KWh although you only get to use about 6.3KWh per charge...
Assuming you can get at least 25 miles on a charge, that's a 252Wh/mile.
6Wh would get you an extra 100 feet.

I'm actually surprised it is that far...

 

Doubt it. The manual says that turning the fog lights on has negligible effect on the traction battery range vs. off. I can't see how having the screen turned on in the premium or the advanced could alter the EV range more than a few feet. Best to not even worry about this kinda stuff. Enjoy the drive.

 

of course turning the screen off you can imagine you have more range since you can't see the screen

 

i used to think the headlights reduced the range as the days got shorter in the fall. turns out it was the lower temps.

 

Could duct tape some flashlights to the front of your car and not use your headlights and see if it makes a difference.

 

already tried it, and it did make a difference. in my vision.

 

Safety (of the DRLs) is more important than an extra 20 feet so I always keep the DRLs on. As for the screen, whenever I'm driving I keep the screen on (I have the smaller 7" Plus screen). The only time I find myself turning off the screen is when I'm occasionally parked with the radio on (in Accessories mode) waiting for someone or something, then I'll turn off the screen (not that it makes a difference when the Accessories will shut off to save battery -- I tried it both ways -- but if I'm just sitting there I'll turn it off). Otherwise, I keep the screen on.
