I use standard 120v charging cable which came with the car. How long it takes if we charge at 8amp. I couldn't find it in the manual. It says that it will take about 5hrs 10mins at 12 amp. Thanks.
A long time.. It looks like it is almost double the time it takes using MAX. got time ! - try it Has anyone plugged in a Level 2 at the 8 AMP setting yet?
At 31*F yesterday. I hooked up to level 2, set at max, with 2 hours remaining to full showing on the dash. Stopped that charge, switched to 8 amps and started a new charge session. The dash showed 4 hours to full.
Well, thanks for trying it to prove the car can slow the charging down. But, the advantage is? I'm not understanding why one would do that on purpose. If level 2 is available, why, even if it was settable for 8 amps, would one want to slow the process down to half or more of the time that 16 amp would offer (1h:55m)? I mean, if I wanted to brew coffee and could set the machine to brew at twice the time it normally takes, would anyone use such a setting?
Just for Safety reason. I needed this because the electricity plug (outlet) which i was using was on the line with breaker capacity of 20 amp, and there were other outlets on the same line used for something else.
on the pip, people were blowing breakers because there was no low amp charging option, so they had to run a dedicated circuit, or not use anything else on the existing circuit while charging. toyota added the 8 amp for those circumstances and also for public charging when amperage availability is unknown. there might also be some old houses with 10 amp breakers, iirc.
