The rear spoiler on my 2012 Prius V five has just recently shown signs of sun damage. The paint on the rest of the (non-plastic) car is pristine. I've contacted Toyota Corporate for support, but unsurprisingly they will do bring since it's out of warranty. I'd appreciate any information regarding a used OEM replacement (it's navy), or tips to restore it. Thanks!
Unfortunately, I do not have a specific contact at Toyota. However, I experienced the same issue with my 2012 silver Prius v a couple years ago. I was going to get it repainted as it was not restorable. But paint cost was too high for what it was worth. At the time, I just called the toll-free number from the “Contact Us” corporate web page. Spoke with someone there and explained the whole situation and was assigned a case number. Make sure you seek help from the dealer prior to calling as this is their normal protocol. Within a couple weeks they informed me I was approved a replacement spoiler and installation at my local dealer. Was surprisingly simple. Contact Us | Contact Toyota Good luck!
Bought the car new 10/2012 and had the spoiler replaced some time in 2016. So yes, less than than 5 years.
If I understand, you are the original owner purchased new year 2012. In year 2016, you replaced the spoiler. Why? Warranty, insurance claim, self damaged. Need more info and closer in person panel inspection. Typically these panels come unpainted and a body shop resprays the color. You can pursue OEM Toyota or dealer if a warranty. Refer to your warranty booklet for OEM length of time, replacement parts I believe typically only have a 1 yr warrant. Or the repair shop if a repaint which you or insurance paid for. Either of these may offer lifetime warranties. Or least expensive, if no coverage, try to color sand and buff the paint. I don't see any paint peeling so a polish may (may) work. Appears to be clouding of the clear coat, not the color. Or super inexpensive, paint only the top surface or even the entire spoiler flat black. Good luck.
Very interesting. A portion of the top spoiler looks pristine. Well looks like you can buy it pre-painted for about $300 from Toyota. I would check with your local dealer. They may give you a discount if you let them have the original. Or you can try to sell the original and to recoup some money back. Having it repainted at a body shop will also cost a few hundred.
