I have made a PCB with a STM32 processor and a CAN transceiver that I want to use to control additional lighting based on the individual door open/closed signals. I am looking for a convenient place in the interior of the car, preferably near the 12V battery, to tap into the CAN bus and connect it to my board. Does anyone have a diagram showing where the CAN bus runs within the car?
Hi RobH, That's where I've been connecting for testing using an OBD2 Y cable. Looking for a more permanent location, ideally would be near the 12V AUX battery for easy power hookup and better access to the inside of the roof Thanks! Erik
Safe bet you can find it near the battery ECU. There are actually multiple networks in the car, connected by at least one gateway. The New Car Features manual has a good overview diagram (I think, at least the Gen 1 and Gen 2 ones did), and then, of course, the wiring diagram manual for the details. techinfo.toyota.com -Chap
Hey Chap, you got it exactly right. Found CAN1 and CAN4 routed to the battery ECU, CAN1 is the same bus that appears on the DLC port. For future reference, it's the black and white twisted pair on the right hand connector (see attached photo)
