Hello all. I bought my first hybrid ever last year used because of my commute (100 miles one way). I have pulled motors out of my subaru and am pretty mechanically inclined; however, i must say Hybrids are my weakness for sure. Yesterday I was driving to work and got the christmas tree of check engine lights on the dash to include the P0A80 code. I have noticed over the past few weeks the battery has not held charge overnight. The fan in the back seat also kicked on very loud as well. I got it towed home and have been driving my other car to work for now. I know I need to replace the battery. There are tons of companies out there. I am not afraid to do it myself after watching a couple of videos. My question is what route did you guys go? I've seen everything from Greenbean, Greentec, and ebay but have also heard of guys pulling htem from junkyards as well. Looking for any type of advice for what worked for you. Car is a 2006 with 133k miles.
welcome! 1) clean the battery cooling fan and grille 2) check the 12v health 3) best: buy a new oem battery 4) second best: find a low mile salvage that hasn't been sitting 5) third best: get tech stream, find your bad cells, replace and balance 6) fourth best: buy a remanufactured battery 7) all the best!
I think you should refurbish that battery yourself, it's low mileage and should have few good years left on it. But it really comes down to how much money you want to spend. 1. Buying new is best 2. Refurbish your own battery 3. Do not buy refurbish from someone else and give up your battery, you'll get something worse than what you have
Thanks for the help. 1. What do new OEM batteries cost. 2. How do you refurbish your own batterY? Ive seen companies like GreenBean Batterys that come out and do it as well as other companies like Hometown Hybrid that will mail a battery to install yourself. Any opinion on these companies?
