In past cars, I'd also try to carry something to help if I ever have a flat or low tire. Is there a spare tire that is recommended? Or might it be a good idea for me to get some of that stuff that inflates a tire with foam if I ever need it? I haven't picked up a nail in a few years, but it can happen. Thank you Jen

I got to drive home from a block away. Nasty nail. The video of unscrewing the big plastic nut to release the spare tire was nice. NOT the reality for my Prius V 2012. The big plastic nut did not grip the metal bolt head. The metal holddown bolt is rusted to the nut under the spare. A 1" hole saw on the plastic and the tire came out. That's not the usual piece of equipment you carry for a flat tire change. I'll see if my Toyo dealer is sympathetic in the morning. I suspect a visegrip and some oil will loosen the holddown bolt to the pan. Anyone who reads this and owns any Prius might want to do a preventive lube. And Toyota could polish their rep with a service bulletin ck......
I showed the dealer the rusted-in holddown bolt. He commiserated, but didn't offer a replacement plastic. I made one from a pvc 2.5 inch pipe cap. It's a 12mm wrench if you use the original bolt. When you check the tire pressure, you have to undo the holddown bolt, so fewer folks will be stranded when it's their turn for a flat....
