looking over the various videos and comments -- it almost looks like it's just easier to remove the whole assembly vs trying to just do the EGR because of the odd bolt holding them together. Is this correct?
It's really not that difficult to remove the intake manifold and egr cooler. Just take your time and think it through. Nutzaboutbolts' videos are very good. He explains how to do it. Here is a link to his youtube channel: https://bit.ly/NutzAboutBolts2
I think it's best to remove them together, for the reasons you've mentioned, and they both pretty much for certain will need cleaning. More info: EGR Replacement?? | PriusChat
That's what I thought ... and it looks like the wiper needs to come off. I'm thinking best to have him do the plugs .. even though they only have 70k on them. The new number looks to be a hotter
Do the plugs while there . If you try and do the egr valve separately from the cooler and try to leave the cooler in place, the top nut is a challenge and fiddly to remove. Do it all at once.
The logic being that taking the cowl off is onerous, do all you can in one pop? It is not that hard: if you do it yourself once, the next time will go fast.
If the miles are high and on original shocks, I’d look into that at the same time . At 184 k miles on our 2010, I’ll be removing the windshield wiper cowling this Sunday for shock replacement . Looking forward to seeing a better ride.
