My son's hove-to in a turnout on a mountain road with his 2008 (with about 115k miles). VSC, ABS, and Brake lights all went on. Brakes still worked and he was almost to his destination so he cautiously kept going. About a mile later, Check Engine light came on as well as red triangle, and accelerator stopped working. He was able to pull into a turnout (with SMS-only cell signal strength). His Scangauge is reading a bunch of codes that don't come up with anything when I search (here or Google): P0a86 C2886 C2986 B066b B0664 B0686 C2186 C2086 P0060 C2386 B065d C1986 ... and maybe a few more, "the scangauge is being uncooperative". 12V battery is reading 14V with car on, 12.5-13V with car off. When he powers up the car, the ICE starts and the Check Engine light is on, but the others are now off. He did do an oil change this morning, about 50-60 miles ago. Says all fluid levels look okay right now. He's a musician and is on his way to the biggest gig of the summer, which starts in 2-1/2 hours...
The car is in limp mode, that's why accelerator is not responding well. Did he put too much oil in the car? As he's going up and down a mountain, it can really cause a slightly overfill situation into a significant overfill situation. The 2008 Prius would take about 3.75 quarts of oil
Thanks, I'll have him double-check. After an hour or so, the car was willing to re-start, and then was able to drive to destination (and back home after) with no further misbehavior or idiot lights. So immediate crisis over, now we just need to figure out what happened and why.
