I’ve been away from the Prius world for several years now, but I’m looking to come back. I’m taking a look at the Prime, but I can’t help but see that every dealership in my area have a large number (50% of inventory) of 2017 models on the lot, side by side with the 2018’s. I believe the 2017’s have a $2500 Toyota discount. Why are there so many brand new 2017’s left? I don’t think I’ve typically seen other previous year Toyota models sell side by side with the current year. I know that market demand is soft, but didn’t know it was this soft. Besides for general new car depreciation and avoiding 1st year bugs, are there other reasons to choose the 2018? Any thoughts, and would the $2500 discount tempt you? I’d like to purchase and keep the car for a long time.
Come to east coast, 2017 Prime are $5000 off. As far as I know, 2018 is carry over model with very little, if any, changes.
Some places didn't get the 2017. It seems Toyota might have overstocked some locations expecting more sales.
the only reason i can think of is degradation of the two batteries, but idk how many months of sitting it would take.
Higher miles on such a new car can be a good thing if batteries' health is a concern. You know it hasn't just been sitting in the back lot all that time. The manufacturer date should be printed on one of the various stickers for recommended tire pressures and/or gross vehicle weight ratings.
Any battery changes in the year ?? Capacity etc? Safety features added? Doesn't matter what you pay for a vehicle , they all depreciate!!
For me it would depend on what I could buy the car for considering that come December of this year the car will officially be a two year old model. If you keep your cars for quite awhile it would be okay but if you don't you have to consider the depreciation hit you will take due to its model year. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
