Have a dented door I'm swapping out for a junkyard door soon. The car has the keyless touch-unlock, and I'm wondering if I can literally just use the shell of the new door and swap everything in and retain all functionality. Please advise if you've done this before/have any tips!
I think so. We had doors replace on a previous car, and the big hassle was alignment; it was never the same after, always needed to slam the doors on the impacted side, even after multiple adjustments. Do you really need to replace, can you post a picture? How your insurance? If possible I would just run it into a pro body shop, let them work their magic, hopefully just pulling out the dents, smoothing everything out, doing a pro colour-blend. My 2 cents, that's preferable
Unfortunately it's pretty severe, beyond repair. Don't want to get into the full story here, but the door shell is damaged, sideview mirror broken/smashed, which also smashed into the vent mirror right above it and shattered that also. Need to basically swap over everything to the new door we ordered.
I'll preface this by saying I've never swapped a door on a Prius. But my educated guess would be that if the junkyard door is equipped with keyless-touch unlock, it would be a simple plug and play. My theory is based on the assumption that the security "magic" happens in the ECU, and that the door handle is simply an antenna for the system. Now if the junkyard door is not equipped with keyless-touch unlock, swapping the handle from the original door should be just a couple of bolts. Toyota door handles are all the same... and I have had a number of those off in the past.
thanks, i believe that's true as well. i don't think the junkyard door is one from a comfort access car, so I'm assuming I'll m ore or less be swapping everything over into that shell.
