I have a Prius 2006, and sometimes I notice when I start the car, it wont turn on the speedometer or anything else. Not only that, but sometimes it won't turn off either. Another thing is that I can't open the hatchback, sometimes, especially when I can't turn off the car.
I Checked the battery and here is what happened First Click on Power Button: 12.3V Second Click on Power Button: 12.0-12:2V (Never went below 12.0V) Turning on Car: 14.0V Anyway to confirm this?
Sounds like classic symptoms of a bad combo meter. (no display, won't shut off every time) The hatch release may be a separate issue.
The hatch only ever happened when the car wouldn't turn off and I tried to disconnect the 12V battery
What was the resting voltage before you pushed any buttons? Measured at the battery terminals, with a voltmeter
Excuse the ignorance, how do I "charge it up"? I honestly don't know. I think it may be the original battery? I'm the third owner, and the first owner had a rear ended accident which basically made the insurance call it quits. So I have no idea if it's newer or the original one. I used the guide with turning on the car, however can you give me a guide on how to check with a voltmeter? Thank you!
you need a battery trickle charger specific to prius battery (agm) around $50. on amazon. ctek makes one as well as other companies. or you can try leaving the car in ready all day, if it is safe to do so. otherwise, you would have to drive it around all day.
if you can get the battery above 12.4 volts resting, and it stays there for a few days, and you are still having display issues, then the combo meter needs to be replaced.
