First, thanks for a great forum! I am impressed by the problem solving capability it creates. My estimate is that I have saved around 6 500 USD on your help! (OT - Recommended by Toyota workshop to replace enginge when in fact the EGR "channels" were clogged.) Long description (might be helpful to someone) and a simple silly question. Status: I have a Prius Gen 3 "Executive", 250 000 km / 156 000 miles. It has been flashing yellow for brake system, ABS and slip indicator for a while. The brakes have been in fail-safe mode. Intermittently the brake assist has started to work (warnings out), but after a few km dissapeared again (warnings on). After a lot of reading I finally have been using the jumper method (SST TC-CG) for reading DTC. (Referring to the flash-pattern below) Brake indicator DTC 36, ABS indicator DTC 38, Slip indicator (VSC/TRAC?) DTC 43. In the "Toyota Prius Manual" (p 995 in my version) I can find explanation to the codes. My interpretation is that both brake system and slip indicator are pointing at the problem in ABS, which would be read as "Foreign object is attached on tip of rear speed sensor RH". Which makes sense since I found a small stone wedged in the caliper (roughly described). The stone was removed. I reset the DTC by the jumper method (p 977 in my manual - TC-CG, IGnition on, 8 brake pressings within 5 s). Warning ligths out. Test drive and warning lights on again after ~1 minute. The same error codes re-appear (probably I need to do some dismantling and cleaning). I hope and assume this is barely a matter of time and effort... Question: After correcting the physical problem or the sensor, do I need to make any "calibration" of the system?
"Which makes sense since I found a small stone wedged in the caliper (roughly described). The stone was removed." Update, some work later makes up for a more realistic point of view... Obviously the stone did not cause the error message since the sensor is not located in such a way the stone could influenced it. Also, cleaning the brake assembly did not help (dismantling, cleaning, lubrication). Only visual inspection of the connector did not show any problems. Maybe I the multimeter method would have been better. After resetting and driving for about one kilometer the warning lights are back on.
Just an update after some 1000 km's. I did not replace the bearing or the sensor. It must really have been "foreign object" on the sensor, because gradually the error message dissappeared and now I have not seen it for more than one month. At the moment this is not a problem.
