Now, I don't have to keep the entire crank case full, I just have to keep it near the top mark on the dipstick. 2007 (or 2008) Prius Base (or Touring). Not sure. Somewhere around 225,000 miles. Changed oil, a lot and it drinks it too. Changed ATF. Still need to change coolant for ICE, transaxel, and whatever else it might cool. Replaced headlights because they were blinking. Now the new ones do. Fixed large holes in the plastic headlight covers. Stressed and worried engine. I don't know if it needs the heads resurfaced and Pistons bored out. Or maybe I just need to pour some fingernail polish remover in the pistons and see if this pour-man's head change will fix any thing first. Drinks oil. My milage is about. 34 mpg. I may need to replace engine if this growls as bad as I think it is. Think I could shoe-horn a gen 4 into my gen2? Or, would that be rude and awkward? I'm in the SF Bay Area down in Santa Clara some what near Lawrence and El Camino. I bought this car to stealth camp in, and I've been using it a fair bit for that. I'm abjectly poor. If I lose the car, I'm me out of options and on foot. O Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Before you go searching for a used engine because your old one no longer runs... There's an old time mechanic maintenance routine that involves soaking the pistons with stuff, as well as flushing after running briefly ATF. I read about it on here a month or so ago. The person was a mechanic and I'm pretty sure it was an original post that walked thru all the steps, rather than just a comment on someone else's post. Maybe someone on here has a link to that? Or maybe just do some googling for it. It seemed like a pretty legit way to get a little more life out of the engine.
That's fourth gen into third though. I've gotta hunch going fourth to second is a no-go, due to so many differences. For sure it's untrodden territory. Is it @Skibob 's link? Maybe he posted while you were still typing?
