hello all i am uploading a video to see what this noise is on my 08 prius 190k has been OK untill now. just replaced driver front side strut assembly. no codes appearing. is this a stuck caliper or broken strut? it actually went away while driving I took a picture also pulled over to see if there is any obvious damage. thank u all #priusgang
Sounds like the brake pads rubbing against a rough spot on the brake rotor. If it had a little surface rust from sitting for a few days, that may be why it went away as you drove. Generally, BTW, struts are done in pairs. Why did you replace just one?
@Classic_pri my mechanic said the other side was fine i guess. but now i notice it comes on when car is first warmed up or after sitting for a while then comes and goes
The noise obviously changes with vehicle speed, so that's why I think it's related to the wheels. Wife's Prius was starting to get noisy like that at 100K miles so I replaced the brake rotors. That took care of it. Again, it was rust rather than wear that made the job necessary. The car has been driven fairly often in snowy/salty conditions.
At this point, getting it up on a lift and doing a thorough inspection is key... There's a bunch of different parts that can cause noises like this... I remember I had a problem with heat shielding rattling on turns and took forever to figure it out.
