Good afternoon, Does anyone know of a video or guide that goes over how to remove the rear bumper of a 2015 Prius C two? Someone hit and run my car, denting my bumper and I'd like to pop it out. The closest video I saw on youtube was this: But I am not sure if the prius c would follow the exact same steps, or if there is an easier way. Someone did the same hit and run in a parking lot to my '13 C. I tried to pop it out, with a steamer and a heat gun, but you can still see the scuff marks and residual wrinkles. I don't have a video, but it was very simple to remove the rear bumper...there are 5-7 screws on the bottom and two bolts on top near the tail lights. I think they're all 10mm. The sides simply pop out by pulling on it and they snap back into the retainer clip by pushing it in when you reinstall it. You don't need any special tools, but you'll need to jack up the car, or use a ramp as I did, to crawl under the car to remove the bottom screws. If yo use a ramp, be sure to put chalks in front of the front wheels. Good luck.
Just for convenience, OP's linked pic (cropped a bit): I wonder if a body shop would even remove the bumper. I'm thinking they would raise the rear a bit for convenience, remove plastic under panels and/or fender liners as required to access the inside, tap it out roughly, then fill (some sort of automotive epoxy filler), sand, spot fill, sand, sand some more, and some more, then paint, doing a blend, where they gradually thin out the paint, till they're shooting clear.
That sounds like what was in the video I linked. I'll be using a ramp since that is what I have. I'm guessing I have to pull/push rather roughly to remove the bumper? Is removing the plastic under panel easier than removing the bumper? I'm not even sure how to get the white paint off the bumper and then smooth it out as if nothing ever happened. I saw online some people recommended toothpaste; others sanding, but I know nothing about either plus what paint, or how to paint it.
There is a 4-5" clip directly under where the bumper cover meets the rear fender. Just pull on it...it will pop out. This video seems to show part of the process: Don't use toothpaste, unless your C has teeth. Don't use sandpaper either. Buy a bottle of liquid rubbing compound (preferably Mothers or Meguiar's) from an auto parts store, or "cutting compound" from a detailing supplies store. Apply with a terry cloth in circular motion until the white paint disappears. Follow up with a polishing compound if surface is dull.
I’d take very hot (near boiling) water, as much as you can, a couple of gallons if possible. Pour slowly over the bumper. It may be enough to get the dent to pop out on it’s own. I have done that on bigger spots in non metallic bumpers and they popped right out.
I tried that with a steamer, which shoots out boiling water if you hold it upside down. Still results were quite disappointing. Nothing like what you see on Youtube. Heat gun worked slightly better, but still the "creases" didn't come out.
