Engine chirping noise when in drive or reverse

    When I start the car it is silent. When I put the Engine in drive or reverse it makes a chirping high pitched noise. My husband came in the garage from the house and said what is that noise? It sounds like a drive belt used to but higher pitch? It started a couple days ago. I have had the car for 8 months and it never has done it before. It is in hv and ev mode. Toyota said it was fine. However it never did it before. I don’t like or trust my dealership. Does anyone have any thoughts what this could be?

    we would need a recording of the sound.

    did you ask the service manager to start a new one on the lot and compare them?

    It is engine noise and not cold weather related.


    I will take it back in and have them compare to another one tomorrow.

    there are no belts, i'm not sure what could cause a chirping noise

    there are several electric pumps, perhaps one of those is starting to fail

    In both ev and hv mode. I only have 6,800 miles on the engine and have driven it for 8 months.

    in ev mode, it can't be the engine

    does it happen in drive or reverse when the car is stationary?

    i hope we're not talking about the proximity warning

    No noise when stationary. When moving in drive or reverse. Very loud when pulling in and out on garage. It is amplified in a enclosed space. Notproximity warning...not. It is a high pitched. The noise a triable makes on Star Trek Trimble episode.

    If it were proximity it should have kicked on for the last 8 month. Nothing in garage has changed.

    I listened to the vpns...on you tube.it sounds exactly like that..
    I think you are right. I guess I should not take it back in. Does it do it in reverse also?
