Hey all, Wondering if anyone has cooked up an ingenious externally accessible yet secure and hidden stash place to cable tie a driver door key? I don't really know the car well enough to even really begin to nut it out yet but hoping someone may have an idea... TIA
Fair call, tricky. On one hand I can see value in the discussion, other hand there’s a clear security problem :/
Make an extra key at your local hardware store for $2. Tape it wherever you want and if you lose it, it'll only be $2. Which will suck when you need it lol
I used to duct tape a spare key to the BACK of the rear license plate. That way you need a screw driver to get at it. Nowdays, I use a "loose" key FOB in the watch pocket of my pants and keep a spare door key (only) on my key ring.
I like the back of the license plate idea. I would use the front plate, so it won't jar loose when I keep closing the hatch. Hopefully there'll be a screw driver when I need it
License plate is a good one only we have such a spate of plate theft here currently you can get free security fastners from police stations to tackle the problem.
Say you want to drive Melb to Syd. Steal a car and an extra set of plates. Fill the tank with the stolen plates and skip on payment then discard plates and drive to Syd before the car is a known theft. I guess this’s how it works. Police are giving away one-way screws so there’s tax payer money put toward the problem which is caused by rising fuel prices.
The question is as to intent. Pros steal cars for sale of parts or resale of the whole by various means. As to stats of cars found and returned in good condition I have no idea.
Yes, I know this. My mom has had 2 cars stolen by joy riders. My pickup was stolen for its parts. Got all 3 back but mine was missing almost everything. Your post made it sound like the majority of the stolen cars were joy riders.
