OK. I just completed a sound deadening project for 5 doors to my 2010 Prius, to include rear hatch door. Very noticeably positive in now i can better hold car conversations, use phone, and listen to radio. The heat is better retained during the winter; i can only assume summer AC will equally be positive. I will provide a summer update if i get motivated to do the dash, flooring, and roof. - TIME. Project took <8 hours over 3 days. - MATERIALS. I used 2x different types of product to both deaden sound and absorb heat/cold: Home dept 1x roll of butyl-rubber tape (mainly used for roof flashing) and 2x rolls of Frost King fiberglass insulation - i used loads of antibacterial wipes to clean the metal door interiors - destroyed all the old vapor barriers an replaced with butyl-rubber tape I also took the added time to push out and stabilize with zip ties, the broken arm rests on 3:4 doors. Not fashionable but highly functional.
i recently drove in a friend's 2013 Prius for comparison, we both agree the sound deadening project noticeably quieted the car interior Very cold now in St Louis now when weather clears up I will perform the same sound deadening treatment to my 2005 Prius, as well
douglasjre, Sorry I never really invested in a mic tool to scientifically perform this procedure. cheers.
OK, i have conducted a sound meter test, late after my sound deadening procedure. Too bad i didn't do a BEFORE, but anyone watching can at least test out their car for a baseline and decide for any interest in conducting this procedure - i conducted 2x tests at 70mph on hwy (look to the last 2x test samples, as the top ones reflect my 2005 Prius) - 41 MIN / 68 AVG / 77 MAX - good to see that both 2005 & 2010 procedures (4x doors and back life gate) produced the same sound deadening results Sound Meter - Apps on Google Play
