Finally bought an obd2 scanner and briefly messed with it. The check engine light flickered a few nights ago but no active trouble codes. I did see a hybrid battery life report and it put mine at 25%. Is this something to worry about (bought new in Aug 2009, currently 54k miles)?
i wouldn't waste energy on worry. spend it on planning a new battery purchase. forewarned is forearmed. who knows, it may be years, but better to have your ducks in a row, just in case driving only a few thousand miles per year can be tough on the battery the rest of the car will be great, so worth spending a couple thousand on a new one
Since I don't know anything about the scanner you used, what does "hybrid battery life report" mean? If it's state of charge (SOC), it just means that the battery has that state of charge at the moment. It will go up and down as you drive. If it's measuring the battery's capacity, then I'd either get a Prolong grid charger to restore it before it fails, or save up for a new battery.
Interesting, but not illuminating. I would take "Hybrid battery pack remaining life" to mean an indication of how close it is to failure. But in parentheses, it says, "BAT PWR," which seems to me like state of charge. I guess you'd need to check it at different times to see how it fluctuates to be able to define the terms. Does it correlate with the bars on your battery charge display on the dash? My guess is it's state of charge. But it's just a guess. I looked on the website and it just said it gives "Hybrid Battery Pack Remaining Life" but doesn't define it there either.
Get Hybrid Assistant And go thru their battery testing procedure. Will give u a lot more data that we can take a look at to see the state of your battery.
Iirc charge was around 50% during both reports. 25% reading was both times. I'll check out the other app too. Thanks
