Need help diagnosing my 2008 Gen2 Prius Std. Is it the 12V battery or ABS Actuator? Had my rear driver tire changed. Drove from the tire shop to work which is about 5 miles. When I turned the car on to leave work, all the brake warning lights came on (see pic). Jumped the #4 and #13 pins to reset. Warning lights clear but eventually return in a day or two. Pulled the rear wheels off at home and nothing visually wrong with ABS sensors or wiring. Brake feel “hard” prior to putting the car in Ready but function normally in Ready and when driving. Blink Codes: ((!)) 57 69 ABS 42 VSC 45 12V battery replaced in 2017 by Toyota. About 10K miles since replaced. Voltages: Acc: 12.1v On: 11.5v On w/ headlights: 11.0V Ready: 14.0v
((!)) 57 (C1256) accumulator low pressure (two INF codes, two pages in manual to troubleshoot) ((!)) 69 (C1391) accumulation performance is deteriorated (one page in manual) ABS 42 not in 2006 book as an ABS code — there is a ((!)) 42 code (low power arriving on IG1 or IG2 circuit), but that could be completely unrelated. Check a 2008 manual to see if ABS 42 is an added code, or use Techstream to read the full five-character code. VSC 45 not in 2006 book as a VSC code — same story, there is a ((!)) 45 code (yaw sensor value weird or uncalibrated) but again that's a different light, different code. See if VSC 45 appears in the 2008 manual, or read the full code with Techstream. The C1256 and C1391 strongly suggest there could be a replacement actuator in your future, though if you wanted to, you could follow the three or so pages of troubleshooting just to make sure there is not some simpler issue (wiring or a correctable leak) before condemning the part.
About the only thing "sorta similar" is the lights you have. The only thing you can tell from that combination of lights is you have something going on with the brake system. Guess what? Your code is a brake system code. However, apart from being a brake system code, that is where the similarity ends. There are 5 sub (or INF) codes associated with that DTC and those INF codes provide more specific focus. 2 INF codes (571 and 572) are detected when hydraulic pressure control on RR wheel has deteriorated. The trouble areas for these 2 INF codes are: Fluid leakage Brake actuator 3 INF codes (573, 574 and 575) are detected when there is a malfunction, such as leakage in pressure increase control valve of RR wheel. The trouble areas for these 3 INF codes are: Fluid leakage Brake actuator assy Disc rotor Here is the full work up for codes C1341/62, C1342/63, C1343/64, and C1344/65. These all indicate a malfunction in hydraulic system, and your code specifically points you to the right rear.
I had recently tried to bleed the brakes and connected the two pins under the steering wheel and since then I cannot put my car into ready mode... no idea what could have happened. It turns on and can change gears to only neutral and park.. please help!!
A followup on this thread concerning the few 'mystery' blink codes that can't be found in some editions of the Gen 2 manual (36 on ECB, 42 on ABS, 43 or 45 on VSC): more here.
