I recently plugged a module into the OBD2 port and that device is getting power 24/7 no matter what. I tested this same module on my Prius v & as soon as I turn the Prius v off the module powers off too, has anyone else experienced their Prius Prime OBD2 port staying energized 24/7 ? Can the OBD2 port be programmed to power off when the car is parked overnight? Rob43
Yes. With the car off my Carista’s Red LED illuminates. With the car on it displays a Blue LED. Just because there is voltage to the ODBII doesn’t mean it’s drawing current with no device plugged in. I think.
That's by design. Why do you want to disable it, thinking it's a drain? That's how memory saver cables work btw: cord that runs from your jump pack to the OBD port, with just the power pins.
I'm not worried about any power drain, I would just would like this module to power off when the Prime is powered off. Like stated, the Pruis v turns this module off when that car powers down. Rob43
I called the tech department of the OBD2 module that I'm using and explained the issue of not shutting off when the Prime is powered off, they said this is a very common issue. They were able to send a firmware update that adjusted their modules voltage, now the module turns off when the Prime powers off. Rob43
I was going to say, yeah, that's the module's responsibility. The + 12V pin on the diagnostic port is always powered (that's part of the standard), so devices that are built to be left plugged in have to have some criteria for turning themselves off so they don't keep consuming power when the car's off. (I think the ScanGauge II normally uses engine RPM as a heuristic for when to put itself to sleep, but also has a "hybrid mode" selectable during setup that makes it look at other activity also, so it doesn't sleep every time the engine stops.)
You should have purchased an odb2 adapter with a sleep mode feature.....like the ODBLink LX. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
